Monthly client reports, without the copy-paste.

Drop in a client's Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet export from QuickBooks Online or Xero. Closeleaf works out the key figures, draws the charts, drafts commentary for you to edit, and gives you a branded PDF to send.

  • Free for one client
  • No signup
  • Client data stays in your browser
  • US Letter or A4 PDF

Built for the monthly close

The same report every month, for every type of small business client, in a few minutes of review.

Built for QuickBooks Online and Xero exports

Built for the usual QuickBooks Online and Xero export layouts: title rows, account sub-totals, monthly and comparison columns, Excel or CSV. Tested with exports from the QuickBooks Online sample company; Xero support follows Xero's documented report layouts and has not yet been tested with real Xero files. A mapping screen lets you check and correct anything.

KPIs worked out for you

Revenue, gross, operating and net margin, month-over-month and year-over-year change, cash, current and quick ratio, and burn and runway when the client is losing money.

Commentary you control

Plain-English draft sentences built from the numbers by fixed rules, only where the data supports them. Edit, delete or add sentences before anything goes in the PDF.

Branded PDF

Cover with your firm's logo, client and period; key figures; four trend charts; commentary; Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet tables. Text stays selectable.

Private by design

Files are read and PDFs are made in your browser. No accounts, no uploads, no trackers. Settings and report history are kept in your browser's storage.

Checks before you send

Flags a Balance Sheet that doesn't balance, totals that don't match the mapped accounts, and accounts it had to categorise from their name.

How it works

Three steps. No connection to your client's books is needed.

  1. Export

Run the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet with monthly columns in QuickBooks Online or Xero and export to Excel or CSV. Step-by-step guide.

  2. Import and review

Drop both files into Closeleaf. Check the key figures and data checks, pick the period, and edit the draft commentary.

  3. Download

Choose US Letter or A4 and download the PDF. The report is saved in your browser so next month starts from the same settings.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Closeleaf is free for one client at a time, with no signup. PDFs include a small “Prepared with Closeleaf” line in the footer.

What happens if I add a second client?

The free version works with one client at a time, so “Add client” shows a short note instead of creating a second client. To report on another client, change the client name (saved reports stay in History), or export a backup and then delete the client to start fresh. If an imported file names a different company than the current client, Closeleaf points it out before you create the PDF.

Does it connect to QuickBooks Online or Xero?

No. You export the reports yourself and import the files. Closeleaf never asks for a login to your client's accounting software.

Where is my clients' data stored?

Only in your browser (IndexedDB) on your device. Nothing is uploaded. Use “Export backup” to keep a copy, and “Delete all data” to remove everything.

Is the commentary written by a chatbot?

No. Each sentence comes from a fixed template filled in with the numbers, and only appears when the data supports it (for example, a revenue “driver” is named only when one account explains most of the change). It is a draft for you to review. It is not advice.

Which export settings should I use?

Summary Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports with one column per month for the last 13 months. Single-period reports work too; you just get fewer comparisons and charts.

Can I use it for other accounting software?

Often, yes. Any spreadsheet with account names in one column and periods in the others can be mapped by hand on the mapping screen.
